OCCC Serve, Earn and Learn (S.E.A.L.) Scholarships

The OCCC Serve, Earn and Learn Scholarship (S.E.A.L.) Program offers OCCC students financial assistance in exchange for service to OCCC. The scholarships will provide on-campus educational service assignments for selected students. The assignment will be vary for seven hours to four hours
a week for nine weeks per term (excluding the first week of the term and finals week).

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS BEGIN

FALL TERM 2015



Students may request a specific assignment; however, the final assignment will be based on an interview and selection process by the designated mentor. The assignment is specified below. Preference may be indicated by a 1 or 2 in front of the position assignment. Examples of S.E.A.L. scholarships are listed below.

Aquarium Science/Science Lab Aide:
Seven hours per week for a total of 63 hours per term for a scholarship award of $535 per term. Student will assist in the set-up and clean-up of laboratory sessions. This will be a guided activity enabling the student to see the organizational side of this learning activity. Other duties as assigned.

Facilities Aide:
Six hours per week for a total of 54 hours per term for a scholarship award of $460 per term.
This position includes: Show up, on time, on days that have been pre-arranged. Assist in maintenance tasks around campus. Organize shop and warehouse areas. Install simple hangers and brackets of pictures and bookshelves. Clean up around shop and on job sites. Prep work for painting and other remodel projects. Light office tasks like filing, organizing shelving. Other duties as they are assigned.

 
Faculty Aide:
Five hours per week for a total of 45 hours per term for a scholarship award of $367 per term.
Assists with clerical tasks, including keyboarding, filing, record/file maintenance and operating office machines (fax, scanner, printer). Some student/public contact. May do basic research. May also assist instructor in evaluating student projects and written assignments/papers. Clerical tasks as assigned. Assume responsibility for on-going projects/tasks. Other duties will be assigned Word processing/microcomputer skills and prior clerical experience required. Type 45+ wpm. Good customer service experience a plus. Pleasant, cooperative attitude welcome!

 
Foundation Aide:
Seven hours per week for a total of 63 hours per term for a scholarship award of $535 per term. Assists with Foundation events, including  helping with mail-outs, organization of storage area before and after events, posting flyers, set-up, clean-up and other tasks as assigned. Other duties include updating Facebook & Twitter profiles, record and file maintenance, data entry, operation of office machinery (fax, scanner, printer) and basic research. The aide should have experience with Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel. Some experience with Microsoft Publisher is also recommended. The aide is also required to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
 
The following will be available as student goals and skills meet the positions. Each will be a 45 hour per term assignment for a scholarship award of $460.
 
 
  •   IT Services Aide: Staff IT desk in the campus commons. Answer questions about college technology
  •   Marketing Aide: Lincoln City. Assist with marketing materials and other functions
  •   College Ambassadors: Attend community events. Represent the college in the community
  •   President’s Support: Work in the office of the College president
  •   Student Liaison : Work with College groups to ensure there is student representation
 
Medical Assistant Lab Aide:
One position at five hours per week for a total of 45 hours per term for a scholarship award of $367 per term. Waldport. This position involves general office duties including copying, maintaining documents and using Microsoft Office. Duties also include working in the Medical Assistant lab, organizing and maintaining lab equipment. Student will also assist in the set-up and clean-up of Medical Assistant laboratory sessions. This will be a guided activity enabling the student to see the organizational side of this learning activity. Other duties will also be assigned such as needed.
 
Student Services Aide:
Seven hours per week for a total of 63 hours per term for a scholarship award of $535 per term. Assists with clerical tasks, including keyboarding, filing, record/file maintenance and operating office machines (fax, scanner, printer). Some student/public contact. May do basic research. Position will also assist Foundation Office and Nursing Department as needed. Clerical tasks as assigned.
 
Tutoring Aide:
Five hours per week for a total of 45 hours per term for a scholarship award of $367 per term. 
The Tutoring Aide provides office support services to the OCCC Tutoring Center and answers questions and makes appointments for students and tutors. This position requires the ability to interact with individuals from diverse socio-economic cultural and educational backgrounds. Work involves processing paperwork, phoning, answering phones, filing, photocopying, typing data into a computer, organizing and tidying the tutoring room, assisting students with tutor request forms and answering questions. Duties may include light cleaning occasionally.
