Herbs to the Rescue
Kitchen, Garden, Natives and Naturalized

NEW for Fall 2018: Aromatic, taste enhancing, and invested with multiple healing properties, herbs and their counterparts, spices, have a history of respect and appreciation by humankind stretching over 5,000 years of known time. Cooks, nutritionists, medical professions, and everyday folk alike are happily re-discovering these amazing properties. Once only available to the elite and secreted away by alchemists, these same spices and local herbs are easily accessible to anyone who cares to purchase or grow them. A series of eight classes will explore medicinal properties of common ‘kitchen herbs,’ native herbs and woody plants, common naturalized herbs (e.g. dandelion), as well as explore herbs that can be grown year-’round on Oregon’s central coast. We will be making teas, tinctures, herbal vinegars, herbal sugars, cremes and cleaning formulas. Consult the OCCC Community Ed webpage for a detailed description of the eight sessions.
