Nursing Program

We offer a rigorous program of nursing education leading to an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. Students who successfully complete the first year of the program are eligible to apply to take the National Licensure Exam, NCLEX-PN, to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Students who successfully complete both years of the program are eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN, to become licensed as a registered nurse. Admission is competitive, students are accepted each Spring for admission in the fall.

The nursing program at OCCC is designed to develop a humanistic approach to nursing care. We believe it is important for graduates to have the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively, demonstrate competence in health care management skills, and use critical thinking which stems from a commitment to professional values and an awareness of individual responsibility. This is accomplished through a two-year program of study and a carefully developed curriculum.
