Credit Students:  To be considered for graduation, a student must fill out the Oregon Coast Community College graduation application located in their myOCCC account.  This must be completed and a student must work with their academic advisor to submit an academic planner to the OCCC registrar that lists all courses required to complete a student’s degree or certificate.  This must be done at least one term in advance of degree or certificate completion.  A student who participates in the ceremony will receive an empty diploma cover at the ceremony.  A student is expected to monitor both their OCCC and PCC email accounts for information about graduation/commencement including how to order their diploma.

GED Students:  Persons who have completed their GED and used OCCC’s testing center or been a student in GED preparation classes at OCCC are eligible to participate in OCCC’s commencement ceremony.  Please contact Basic Skills for more information.

ESL Students:  ESL students may participate in OCCC’s commencement ceremony.  Please contact Basic Skills for more information.


The 2020 Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Newport Performing Arts Center located at 777 W. Olive Street, Newport, OR 97365.  Early arrival and ride-sharing are recommended.  Seating is limited and available on a first-come basis.

Candidates for Graduation

As a candidate for graduation, you must arrive at the Newport Performing Arts Center by 5:00 p.m.  Participants will assemble in the hallway leading to the dressing rooms.  Please check in with a College representative upon arrival.

To participate in commencement, all students are required to wear approved regalia.  OCCC students wear a black cap and gown.

Honor cords are distributed to eligible students who attend the ceremony on the day of commencement.

Cap & Gown

Credit Students:  A student will order their cap and gown from when the OCCC site becomes available in mid-March.  All caps and gowns will be shipped to a student’s physical address.

GED Students:  All GED students will check in with Basic Skills regarding cap and gown.

ESL Students:  ESL students wear street clothes for the commencement ceremony.

Guests: Night of Commencement

No tickets are required.  All guests, including children and spouses, must enter through the main doors of the Newport Performing Arts Center.  The auditorium opens at 5:30 p.m. (opening time is subject to change).  An overflow seating area is available and will have the ceremony streamed to that location.  A reception is available to you and your guests at the conclusion of the ceremony.
