Businesses can declare interest in new program, due to launch in Fall 2019

In October, the Oregon Coast Community College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will launch its brand-new Central Coast Marketing Academy, funded by a grant from Lincoln County (using Transient Room Tax revenue). The program was planned by a first-ever partnership between the SBDC and Oregon State University’s College of Business, and an early registration form is posted for those interested in the program.

“We are working with OSU and our statewide SBDC Network to bring some of the sharpest minds in marketing to the coast to arm local business owners and managers with the very latest in marketing tools and technology, as well as fundamental tenets of effective marketing,” said SBDC Director Dave Price. The program will also pull in experts from across the state’s network of SBDCs, and it kicks off with two presentations (October and November) both focused on sales strategies. “We’re really excited about those first sessions,” Price said, “as sales training and strategy is almost impossible to come by here on the coast.” {Complete program details here.}

The Marketing Academy is designed for established businesses in the hospitality, dining, or retail industry. The SBDC anticipates more interest in the program than it can accommodate, so expressing interest via this new online form is not a guarantee of participation.

The county grant will cover much of the tuition for the inaugural class of the Marketing Academy, which will meet monthly from October 2019 through June 2020. To express interest in one of the limited number of available seats in the program, visit or call 541-994-4166.

Scholarship Assistance

In 2019, Waldport and Lincoln City Urban Renewal Agencies approved funding for SBDC scholarships for businesses located within the U.R. Districts in those two cities. And, the Roger and Lois Mills Scholarship and donations from other former SBDC clients and SBM graduates provides additional assistance for some Lincoln County businesses seeking SBDC services, including the Small Business Management Program. Annual support from the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners helps keep costs down for all SBM participants, too. To find out if you’re eligible for one of these programs, call our office at 541-994-4166.

Small Business Development Center

Each summer,  our team takes to the streets to talk with folks interested in our cornerstone program, the Small Business Management Program. It’s one classroom session every month for 9 months, starting in late September, plus monthly one-on-one sessions with an advisor, to discuss any issues you wish over the course of the academic year.
