Upcoming Event: SBDC presents local business trivia contest

What: Pub Talk / Lincoln County Business Trivia Contest
Cost: Free
When: 6-8pm Thursday, Feb. 13
Where: Marci’s Bar & Bistro, Lincoln City

So, you think you know all there is to know about the Lincoln County business community? Are you well versed on what makes our economy tick?

Prove it, at a fun and casual after-hours event set for Thursday evening, Feb. 13 in Lincoln City.

The Oregon Coast Community College Small Business Development Center will host its next business pub talk at Marci’s Bar & Bistro in Lincoln City. The event will feature a lively round of trivia that will focus on the local business community and the broader county economy.

“A trivia contest based on ‘the local economy’ may sound like a real snooze-fest,” said Misty Lambrecht, the SBDC’s Small Business Management Program coordinator. “But we promise, it’ll be a lot of fun. And, best of all, every participant will get to sample a variety of Marci’s wonderful appetizers!” Lambrecht added there will be a cash bar available for purchase of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

After the trivia, participants will be invited to pass the microphone around and share announcements about products and services and other news related to their businesses.

“Our pub talks always provide lots of opportunity for local businesspeople to meet and talk with others. Each time we host one of these,” Lambrecht said, “business cards and contact information is exchanged and new relationships are forged.”

Marci Baker, owner of Marci’s Bar & Bistro, is a graduate of the Small Business Management Program at the SBDC. She and her fiancé have also just opened the new Zest Creperie and Tea House. Both businesses are along Highway 101 in Lincoln City’s Oceanlake District. The Creperie is located at 1816 NE Hwy. 101, while Marci’s Bar & Bistro, site of the Feb. 13 trivia night, is located at 1343 NW Hwy. 101.

There is no cover charge or cost to participate in the trivia contest. Learn more at at 541-994-4166.

Central Coast Marketing Academy

In 2019, the Oregon Coast Community College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) launched its inaugural Central Coast Marketing Academy, funded by a grant from Lincoln County (using Transient Room Tax revenue). The program was planned by a first-ever partnership between the SBDC and Oregon State University’s College of Business.

“We worked with OSU and our statewide SBDC Network to bring some of the sharpest minds in marketing to the coast to arm local business owners and managers with the very latest in marketing tools and technology, as well as fundamental tenets of effective marketing,” said SBDC Director Dave Price. The program also pulls in experts from across the state’s network of SBDCs, and it kicked off with two presentations (October and November) both focused on sales strategies. “We were really excited about those first sessions,” Price said, “as sales training and strategy is almost impossible to come by here on the coast. Those two sessions were very well received by participants.” {Complete program details here.}

The county grant will cover much of the tuition for the inaugural class of the Marketing Academy, which will meet monthly from October 2019 through June 2020. Learn more at or call 541-994-4166.

Scholarship Assistance

In 2019, Waldport and Lincoln City Urban Renewal Agencies approved funding for SBDC scholarships for businesses located within the U.R. Districts in those two cities. And, the Roger and Lois Mills Scholarship and donations from other former SBDC clients and SBM graduates provide additional assistance for some Lincoln County businesses seeking SBDC services, including the Small Business Management Program. Annual support from the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners helps keep costs down for all SBM participants, too. To find out if you’re eligible for one of these programs, call our office at 541-994-4166.
